The Art Party

Mol’s Place cordially invites you to The Art Party {No1}; a one-off evening exhibition comprising art, performance and music. This is the inaugural event for a series of exhibitions and contemporary art projects by The Art Party. With a view of curating engaging exhibitions and projects with a wide range of artists The Art Party also aims to host inclusive and creative private views which encourage lively discourse. The Art Party {No1} will exhibit painting, photography, fashion, video, and performance alongside live music to explore the nuances of interaction in the staged social setting of the party.

In Kate Hawkins and Eloise Fornieles’ video You’re Too Kind the use of text removes social environment and character to expose the frivolity of social etiquette in a casual meeting, in contrast the video Mal Gusto employs drama and gesture to bring to life the faux pas of two women wearing the same dress to a party. Richard Parry reveals his commercial motives as artist to promote his work through setting up a business office space challenging mainstream gallery practices. Bedwyr Williams uses humour to explore the absurdity of human interaction and will perform his work In Dreams at 8.30pm. Mark Scott-Wood’s impromptu intervention later on in the evening will be hinted at by clues left around Mol’s Place. The Rodnik Band, a London-based fashion label, will showcase a selection of haute couture dresses from their Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection blurring the boundaries between commerce, fashion and the art object. Oliver Ashton’s interactive kaleidoscope installation gives party-goers a refracted view of the social setting at The Art Party {No1}. Paul Sakoilsky will be exhibiting his ongoing and extensive Dark Times project which subverts the negative tone of the press, in addition to this he has also created a special Dark Times Limited Edition Cocktail for the night. We Are Birds Of Paradise will play a live set wearing bespoke costumes made especially for the event and DJ RobinTheFog, courtesy of Resonance104.4fm, will be providing music throughout the night. A neon light sculpture by Simon Tyszko in the centre of the performance space sums up the spirit of The Art Party; SERIOUS FUN.

Bedwyr Williams is currently in SHOW at Jerwood Space, London until 21st April. Forthcoming exhibitions include: Nimrod at Oriel Davies Gallery, Newtown, Wales and a solo exhibition at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham. Williams represented Wales in the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005 and exhibited in Becks Futures 2006 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London.
